Aboriginal Veterans Day

Lest we forget.

Today is Aboriginal Veterans Day, a chance to recognize the long and proud history of First Nations, Metis and Inuit contributions to the military history of Canada.

A small and brief ceremony was held at the Dryden Cenotaph to remember and honour local Indigenous military personnel who served our country.

Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford says ever since distinguishing themselves fighting alongside British solider in the War of 1812, Indigenous people have demonstrated their valour as they have continued to volunteer and sacrifice.

The Kenora-Rainy River MPP notes First Nations men and women have continued this tradition by enlisting to this day, being deployed by NATO, serving with the United Nations and other multinational peace support missions around the world.
