The City of Dryden is being asked to participate in a solar park project with Kapuskasing.
The 500-kilowatt solar farm would be located here and would distribute power to both Dryden and Kapuskasing.
Chief Administrative Officer Andre Larabie says it’s an exciting opportunity and hopefully council will look at the option very soon, and at least ask from a visit from the CAO.
He says the life of the equipment is long and the return on the investment is short.
It’s reported that Kapaskasing would do all of the leg work and will provide financing, construction and administration.
There’s no cash involvement for Dryden and the City would be guaranteed anywhere from 40-50% of the revenue from the solar park.
It’s also reported that Kapuskasing needs the power but doesn’t have the space needed to establish the solar farm.
Dryden is perfectly positioned for such an initiative.
The provincial deadline for applications is December 13th and the project could generate anywhere from $0 to $600,000 revenue, and Larabie says that’s almost enough to look after the whole recreation department for a year.
