The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is dealing with 54 active fires across northwestern Ontario.
Twenty-four are considered not under control.
Fifteen new starts were reported Monday, a majority in the Thunder Bay district.
In our area there was just one small blaze about 24 kilometres southwest of Ignace.
The fire hazard is high to extreme in the southern half of the region along the Minnesota border but the north half is experiencing low to moderate conditions.
