More bad news for Northwestern Ontario’s tourism industry.
The U.S. State Department is planning to hike passport fees by as much as 35%.
Ontario Sunset Country Tourism Executive Director Gerry Cariou says the move could have an impact on bookings this Summer.
Cariou says families will not be able to afford a more expensive passport, on top of high gas prices and increased taxes on accommodation.
Passports have been mandatory to cross the border since last Summer.
Cariou doesn’t expect this Summer to be a banner year for tourism and hopes outfitters and hotels receive last minute bookings.
Another Hurdle for Tourism Industry
