A 57-year-old man from Onalaska, Wisconsin is dead following an apparent drowning near Upsala.
Provincial Police say two men were camping on an island on Sparkling Lake last Tuesday when their boat drifted away.
One of the men dove in the water to retrieve their vessel, but suddenly stopped swimming and went limp in the water.
The other man remained stranded on the island and was finally able to flag down another boater for help on Friday afternoon.
OPP continue to investigate.
A post-mortem exam is being conducted today at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora to determine the cause of death.
OPP have determined the victim has been identified as Daniel Hesselberg from Onalaska Wisconsin USA.
