Work continues to replace the aging Queen Elizabeth District High School in Sioux Lookout.
Sean Monteith is the Director of Education at the Keewatin Patricia District School Board and says they have selected Ian Hill out of North Bay as the architect for the new $30-million school.
A total of 13 proposals were received.
Monteith says the winning bid wasn’t just based on numbers and finances but had more to do with the fact they have a wealth of experience working in northern Ontario.
They have done work in the Rainy River district as well as Superior-Greenstone district.
Monteith says they also have a lot of experience on building schools and most recently built a 500,000 square foot hospital in North Bay.
He notes Hill is also open to working and consulting with all of the stakeholders.
Monteith says the next step is site selection as well as meeting with stakeholders.
The new school to replace Q.E. is the biggest capital currently in the works at the public school board.
