Arrest Made in Tina Fontaine Case

Winnipeg Police have made an arrest in the homicide of 15-year old Tina Fontaine.

53 year old Ramond Joseph Cormier, formerly of New Brunswick is in custody in Vancouver and has been charged with murder. Police say the two knew each other.

Cormier is described as a ‘career criminal’ who has been in and out of jail most of his life.

Fontaine had been under the care of Manitoba’s Child Welfare system when she went missing in early August of last year. Her body was found stuffed in a bag in the Red River on August 17.

In investigating her disappearance, it was revealed that Winnipeg Police had stopped the girl on the evening she went missing, but did not detain her. The investigation into her death has been the subject of criticism and accusations in the past year.
