Atikokan Declared Disaster Area

Atikokan, Ignace and the Rainy River District have all been declared a disaster area, which may allow residents affected by flooding to receive funding from the province to offset related expenses.
As well, an evacuation order has been lifted in Atikokan, allowing up to 30-families to return home.
Bill Bell, Emergency Measures Officer for the township says all homes in the evacuation area will need an inspection before hydro can be re-connected.
In other flood-related news, the travel ban on the Atikokan river is lifted, however caution is advised when traveling because of strong currents.
Anyone seeking flooding information or if you have flood damage to report, contact the township office.
The office will be open this weekend from 9am to 5pm.
