Atikokan Looking at Energy Generation Project

The Town of Atikokan is in early talks with Synfuel Technologies regarding additional power generation opportunities.
Discussions indicate that the company could be persuaded to a Provincial request to establish a 210 megawatt generating station.
Atikokan Mayor Dennis Brown says the plant would create new jobs and help cushion the blow if the government decides to shut down the coal fired generating station.
Brown says 2 proposals have been submitted, one to house the plant next to the existing coal-fired station or a stand alone facility in Town.
Atikokan hopes to hear back from the Province and Synfuel by month’s end.
