The Chair of the Atikokan Police Services Board says Police Chief Bill
Baxter is facing a charge of fraud under $5,000 and breach of
trust.
Rob Ritchat says Baxter is scheduled to appear in court March
14th for a preliminary hearing.
The Board had asked the Ontario Civilian Commission of Police
Services to investigate following allegations of financial irregularities.
Last November, Chief Baxter admitted in an open letter that he had
misused his department credit card.
Baxter stated he had repaid nearly $900 and would seek help for
mental health issues.
The Chief remains on paid sick leave, pending the outcome of the
legal proceedings.
