The Township of Atikokan has declared a state of emergency in the wake of a powerful storm that hit the region this week.
Atikokan Councillor Garry MacKinnon says the area near the Atikokan River is expected to be in a critical situation for the next two weeks.
MacKinnon says about two-dozen homeowners have been evacuated and a reception centre has been set up at the Atikokan Native Friendship Centre.
The Township of Atikokan is also sampling water as a precautionary measure and residents are encouraged to limit their use of water.
Atikokan joins Lake of the Woods Township, the Town of Rainy River and Dawson Township in declaring a state of emergency.
