The Prime Minister is again blaming poor management in
Attawapiskat for the horrendous housing conditions facing residents of the remote Northern Ontario reserve.
Stephen Harper admits the impoverished First Nation community needs more infrastructure and services, but says it also needs also better management.
The band was already being co-managed by an outside party before the Federal Government effectively took over running the community this week.
The Opposition has accused Indian Affairs Minister John Duncan of incompetence.
Meantime, one of Canada’s most respected First Nations voices says there will be more Attawapiskat’s if immediate changes aren’t made.
Phil Fontaine says living conditions on First Nations will change when both government and communities work off the same page.
Phil Fontaine says the government decision to appoint a third party to manage the community will not get to the root of the problem.
He says third party managers cannot approve housing programs.
