It was a bittersweet day celebrating the lives of two local youths, Kayden and Joyclyn Grant.
Tragically, last week, they both drowned in the Wabigoon River.
Kayden jumped in after his sister, Joyclyn, trying to save her. They did not survive.
Their family have decided to take this tragedy and use it for good.
They are starting a foundation called “Water Wings” to instate standard, basic life-saving swimming education in Ontario schools. Heather said, “had my children known how to do that, it would have saved the tragedy completely.”
The Wabigoon Lake Ojibwe Nation drum circle also came to pay their respects and pledge to back the families initiatiave.
I was privileged to bein attendance of this celebration of Kayden and Joyclyns life and it was wonderful to see our community rally around this grieving family.
