Avalon Advanced Materials says its Big Whopper site north of Kenora is a bit richer than previously thought.
Don Bubar is the president of the junior mining company and he says they recently purchased some extra property next to Separation Rapids and have discovered a new seam of lithium rich pegmatite.
Bubar says they had a crew on-site doing basic mapping, prospecting and sampling and they found a big one sticking right out on the surface that hadn’t been recognized before.
He calls the find encouraging, noting it shows everyone that there are more resources to find to sustain a longer-lived operation.
Bubar says they are still waiting for environmental permitting for the proposed mine site, but is still optimistic that they can start open pit operations in the next year or so.
Meantime, Avalon hasn’t given up plans to supply lithium for the rechargeable battery industry.
Bubar admits they have shifted their initial focus back to the ceramic glass industry once they get their open pit mine site in operation.
Bubar says the capital needed to produce lithium for the rechargeable battery industry is about 10 times more expensive than it is for ceramic glass.
However, he notes it will remain on their radar.
