Balmertown Man Charged with Assaulting Police

A routine arrest turned ugly for a Red Lake OPP officer over the weekend.
Early Sunday, an officer arrested a 20-year-old man for being intoxicated in a public place.
Police say during the arrest, a scuffle ensued, and pepper spray was used by the officer to subdue the suspect.
Both were taken to hosptial and treated for injuries.
Police say Joey Koroscil of Balmertown has been charged with resisting arrest, assualting police, being intoxicated in a public place.
He has been released and will appear in court July 24th.
The Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate.
