Bear Clan Officially Operating In Kenora

The Bear Clan Patrol has now expanded its service in Kenora 24/7.

A ceremony was held Monday under the White Cap Pavillion to formally launch the program.

Daryl Redsky is the co-ordinator of the program and says it’s similar to the Street Patrol NeChee Friendship Center used to operate.

“Its a more proactive approach,” suggests Redsky.

“I mean now they have been trained to be mobile, witnessing activities in the community. Whatever kind of activities you can think of. They have been taught and trained how to monitor and how to be aware of those kinds of situations now.”

The Bear Clan Patrol has funding for one year and local organizations will use the next year to find more permanent money for it.

In her remarks in yesterday’s ceremony, Lorraine Cobiness, the Chair of the Kenora Chiefs Advisory, says the Bear Clan Patrol is in part the community response to the death of Delaine Copenace four years ago.
