Beware of CRA Tax Scams

The tax return deadline has come and gone.

The deadline was midnight on Monday, May 2.

Paul-Noel Murphy says unfortunately they do see a lot of Canada Revenue Scams at this time of year.

“If you get a phone call from somebody calling from the Canada Revenue Agency and it sounds kind of suspicious because they are threatening you with legal action, with an arrest warrant, or that kind of thing, be wary,” suggests Murphy.

“If you’re not sure whether the person who is calling really is who they say they are, you can hang up and call our general inquiries people at 1-800-959-8281. They’ll have a look at your account and let you know if there is anything going on.”

Muphy says in addition to phone-call scams, they’ve been also told about email and text scams.
