TransCanada Pipeline is looking to file an application with the National Energy Board.
During an open house in Kenora spokesperson Grady Semmens said they want to make the application next month.
Semmens says moving onto this phase is a big step in the process.
He adds the application to the NEB will include greater details on the project on a national and local level.
