Bill Scherpenisse

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a Father, Brother, Grandfather,Great grandfather and Uncle, Willium Jacobus Scherpenisse. Born in St. Boniface January 25, 1929 after the family migrated from Holland and was raised in rural Manitoba on the family farm. He later made Sioux Lookout his home in 1971.Following his early retirement in 1984 from the Armed Forces Sam Lake Radar Base, Bill became a local entrepreneur. He could be found just as easily hunting with some of his many friends, fixing a water line or furnace, or calling the Canada Geese from across the lake for local daycares who would visit his hobby farm. Bill was avid an outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, trapper, prospector, hobby farmerand, of course, a master collector. He was pre-deceased by his parents Benjamin and CorneiliaScherpenisse;Brothers Cornelis (Rooley) and Peter (Vi) and Donna McCord his common law wife, as well as granddaughter, Joana Lee Larson. He is survived by his sister,Jackie(Jack)Schettler of Arboug MB. His children are TimScherpenisse(Marianne) of Winnipeg, MB, Cora Larson, Angie Scherpenisse(Danny) of Qualicum Beach BC, Mike McCord (Nancy) and Jim Baverstock (Marlies) of Sioux Lookout, ON and Jay Baverstock of Thunder Bay, ON. His grandchildren are Sarah, Rodney, Luke, Johnathan, Linnea, and Ethan as well as his great granddaughter Ava. Bill also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as Anna Scherpenisse.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Diabetes Association.

There will be a drop-in memorial held at 111 Forest Drive on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to celebrate Bill’s life and share stories.

A private interment of ashes will be at a later date.
