The bio-economy is expanding in Northwestern Ontario.
The Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bio-economy is
putting up $3-million dollars to create a partnership between Lakehead University and G-2 BioChem in Chatham.
The partnership will provide Lakehead researchers with access to the demonstration plant at the G-2 BioChem facility.
The company will focus on development of bio-refinery processes, while Lakehead will work to develop value-added chemicals.
Thunder Bay-Atikokan Liberal Bill Mauro says the goal is to
extract new products from traditional forest resources, not just pulp and paper.
A news conference in Thunder Bay was told the venture should lead to new value-added products such as adhesives, biochemcials and biopharmaceuticals.
