Black Bear Recovering

A bear found struggling for its life in the Rainy River district is doing well.

The animal, since named hope, was found lying in a field last month and eventually taken to a black bear sanctuary in southern Ontario.

Mike McIntosh with Bear With Us says an MRI found no broken bones, but revealed an inflammation on the spinal cord to cause the bear to be paralysed.

McIntosh says it’s suspected it was something she had for months and had it not been for the discovery by those who found her, Hope would have likely died.

McIntosh says it is possible Hope will make a full recovery if she responds well to treatment.

If all goes well, Hope could be returned to the Rainy River district this summer and released back to the wild.
