The Trudeau government is continuing to defend its new carbon pricing plan for Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.
The four provinces have refused to create their own climate change strategy, so the feds have imposed one on them.
Kenora MP Bob Nault says not only will the carbon tax put more money in the hands of local residents, it will also filter cash into municipal green energy efficiency projects.
Nault claims you will get a rebate through your income tax of about $330 per household.
He notes the estimate of what the changes will cost the average consumer is about $220 a year.
Nault adds that because there are few transit alternatives in rural and northern Ontario, residents in our area will also receive an extra 10% rebate from the new carbon pricing strategy.
Nault notes the government is taking a leadership role on climate change, where province’s like Ontario have refused.
Premier Doug Ford claims the new pricing regulations will cost consumers in the province money.
