Bowater Canadian Forest Products of Thunder Bay has been found guilty after a 1999 forest fire in Nipigon.
The company has been fined 40-thousand dollars for failing to modify its harvesting operations during a high fire hazard period, and the company did not alert employees of an increased fire hazard and did not implement fire prevention measures.
More than 50-thousand hectares burned in the Summer of 1999 blaze.
The fire cost 6.2-million dollars to put out.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is currently pursuing civil action against Bowater to recover costs.
