The Town of Ignace is in shock after staff at the Bowater Sawmill
arrived to work this morning to learn the mill has been shutdown.
The closure is for an indefinite period of time with no planned
restart date and it effects 29-staff and 20-contractors.
Company Spokesperson Georges Cabana says current market conditions
and the insufficient level of quota allocations for Ontario Sawmills
resulting from the softwood lumber deal are to blame.
Cabana explains why the announcement was made just before Christmas.
