“Breaking the Chain”.
That’s the name of a drug and alcohol addiction awareness campaign being organized by a group of Social Service Worker students.
Dryden’s Tammy Pelletier was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Wednesday to announce that author Roland Vandal will be in the community Friday for a public event at the Legion.
Vandal was sexually abused by his boxing coach and turned to drugs and alcohol and hit rock bottom.
He survived the addiction crisis and is now a motivational speaker.
Vandal will be telling his story at a free event from 6 until 7.
There will be a meet-and-greet, silent auction, book sale and signing from 2 until 5:30 at the Legion as well.
“Breaking the Chain” wristbands will also be on sale.
Pelletier says the issue has been ignored and they want to send out a message that help is out there.
Proceeds from some of the sales will be going to Dryden Regional Addiction and Mental Health Services and the Atikokan Youth Initiative.
