Bridge Fire Deemed Suspicious

CN Rail Police, Thunder Bay Police and Fire Officials are treating Tuesday night’s blaze at the James Street Bridge as a crime scene.
The bridge links Thunder Bay to Fort William First Nation and the fire was reported around 7 o’clock last night.
CN Spokesperson Lindsay Fedchyshyn says they are supporting the preliminary investigation.
Fedchyshyn says for the moment the probe is in the hands of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
She adds they hope to know more later today or tomorrow on how long the bridge will have to be closed for.
The bridge wasn’t destroyed but did receive extensive damage.
Fort William Chief Georjann Morriseau says the community is in shock over the incident and she’s still trying to figure out where to go from here.
Morriseau thinks it’s time to replace the bridge.
Morriseau says an extended closure of the bridge has the potential to create economic hardship for residents and businesses in the community.
