An Independent MP from Northwestern Ontario is supporting a Conservative private member’s bill.
Michael Chong’s proposed bill would give more power to party caucuses, including the ability to oust their leaders.
Thunder Bay-Superior North’s Bruce Hyer is calling for a free vote on the legislation.
Hyer says the Parliamentary Secretary is ducking the issue and he’s asking the Prime Minister if he will whip the Conservative vote on the Reform Act.
A number of Conservative members are said to be supporting the bill.
Chong says the legislation will rebalance power between the legislative and executive branches of government and restore Canadians’ faith in their Parliament.
