Brush Fire in Dryden

Dry and windy conditions lead to a small grass and bush fire between two residential buildings in Dryden Monday afternoon.

At about 3, the Dryden Fire Service was dispatched to a Government St. (hwy 17) residence near the Holiday Inn Express for a outdoor fire spreading to a forested area. Firefighters found grass and bush burning beside both a home and a detached garage.

Fire crews extinguished the fire with a pumper truck and a hose line.

The occupant was moved outside and the house was checked inside with a thermal imaging camera.

Crews also climbed onto the roof of the house and checked the woodstove chimney, which seem to be the source of sparks falling onto the dry grass around the house.

Firefighters and MNRF crews were on the scene for about an hour.
