It was a busy long weekend for Ontario Provincial Police.
Unfortunately, the numbers aren’t the greatest.
Sergeant Shelly Garr says in Northwestern Ontario says there were 503 charges laid for speeding, 2 street racing charges, 24 seatbelt charges, 12 charges for impaired driving and 5 distracted driving charges.
In the entire province, five people were killed in vehicle collisions and waterway incidents.
Garr says the loss of life over the long weekend marks a 26% increase from last year. This brings reported by OPP in the province up to 211, compared to 168 the same time last year.
