Ministry of Natural Resources fire crews had their busiest weekend of the summer.
Over the last two days, the M.R.N. says there were 57 wildfires reported in the region.
Travis Moffatt is a fire information officer and says almost all the new fire were caused by lightning strikes
from storms that passed through the region last week.
He says high winds and dry conditions made a difficult situation even worse.
Moffatt adds that the most severe fires are located in the Thunder Bay District.
Currently there are 179 fire crews and four water bombers from out-of-province working to extinguish wildfires in the region.
