Rickford’s name has been thrown around in recent reports.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper will unveil his new cabinet at 10:00 this morning.
The prime minister will be looking to put in place a team that will carry the Conservative government into the 2015 election.
Insiders say it could be the biggest cabinet revamp since the Conservatives took power in 2006.
Several veterans are expected to be dropped, and replaced by younger backbenchers, adding fuel to the fire that Rickford will be among those included.
Sources say Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will keep their jobs.
