A report being released today urges a bigger role for aboriginal communities in tapping into Canada’s natural resources.
The report by the Canadian Council of Chief Executives calls for Ottawa and the provinces to make aboriginal communities full partners in developing energy and mining projects.
Obtained by The Canadian Press, the report was prepared for the premiers in advance of their meeting later this month.
It says governments should help train a growing aboriginal
workforce and develop new ways to help aboriginal communities participate in negotiations to share natural resource profits.
