The East-West Road Coalition continues to advance its case for an East-West route to access the Ring of Fire.
Spokesperson and Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance believes things are progressing well following talks with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Lawrance says the next step is sending an official letter to the Minister of Environment requesting an environmental assessment.
He says they have the support of all of the district municipalities, many First Nations and private industry.
Lawrance says they have also had positive talks with CN Rail.
Lawrance is hoping recent correspondence with both levels of senior government will trigger a fair and equitable review to consider environmental, cultural and socio-economic impacts of an all-season road alternative to the Ring of Fire.
He says their group is aware and respectful of the evolving process related to the Environmental Assessment for the North-South route, but wish to see a full and complete comparison of the environmental impacts of all possible routes.
