Canadian Red Cross seeking emergency management volunteers

If you enjoy helping people and want to make a real difference when your community needs it most, the Canadian Red Cross may have an opportunity for you.

The organization is looking for volunteers to join its Emergency Management teams, people willing to step up when a fire, disaster or other emergency turns someone’s life upside down.

As an Emergency Management volunteer, you could help people access emergency shelter, food, clothing and personal services. You may help assess what people need, connect them with community supports and partner agencies, or take part in emergency preparedness and training.

And the need is growing.

“Disasters now endanger more Canadians and cause more devastation than ever before,” the Red Cross says.

Whether an emergency involves a residential fire or a larger disaster, trained volunteers are often there to provide support when people need it most.

You must be at least 18 years old and willing to volunteer at different times, including evenings and weekends, depending on local needs. You may choose to help in your own community or, if you’re interested, assist with larger responses elsewhere in Canada.

No one can predict when an emergency will happen. But you can choose to be ready to help when it does.

The Canadian Red Cross provides training and guidance to help volunteers safely deliver vital services. If you have a desire to help others and give back to your community, this could be your opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
