Health care is the focus of the candidates of Kenora-Rainy River today.
The NDP candidate says money for health care is being spent on needless bureaucracy.
Sarah Campbell says her party would stop paying huge contracts to CEO’s and would spend the money on hiring more health care professionals.
Campbell accuses the Liberals of wasting our health care dollars.
The Liberal candidate says doctor and nurse retention and recruitment are main priorities for his party.
Anthony Leek says the Liberals will study which areas need the most attention.
Leek says gaining access to quality care is always a challenge, especially in Northwestern Ontario.
Conservative candidate Rod McKay says his party would get rid of Local Health Integration Networks.
McKay says LHINS have cost $300-million over 4-years just in administration and salaries.
He says the Conservatives will put that money back into front line health services.
The Northern Heritage Party candidate says she would like to focus our health care services on the growing baby boomer population.
Charmain Romaniuk says more and more people are entering the geriatric age and notes the proper services aren’t available for those individuals.
Romaniuk notes the Province must spend more money on helping seniors cope at home and freeing up Hospital room beds.
Green candidate Jo Jo Holiday says the Provincial Government must spend more money on mental health services.
Holiday says we have to build on the healing abilities of people living in the communities.
She stresses this Riding has one of the highest mental health rates in Ontario.
