Catholic board pleased with EQAO results

The Northwest Catholic District School Board says many of its students meet the provincial standards in the province-wide tests.

Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Rathwell says grade three and six students performed similarly to the provincial averages.

“Our target is for 75% of students to be at level three or above. In our three largest schools, students are meeting this target for reading and writing,” says Rathwell.

But Rathwell says many students still fall short of the standards when it comes to math.

“The ministry has identified that our students across the province need more support in mathematical learning. So we have a lot of work happening this year to support our teachers in meeting our students’ needs in regards to mathematics.”

Because the number of students who wrote the tests was so small in some schools, not all of the results are being public.
