A couple of important dates have solidified my Northwestern Ontario stay for quite some time. One of those dates has cycled around again and is today!
(August of 1987 – I moved to Dryden and started my career at CKDR.)
July 27th of 1996 – I married a Drydenite. It’s 26 years for Laurie and I as of today!
She’s put up with a lot. Don’t all spouses?! We give. We take. We adapt or it fails.
I’m sure you have dates and memories (good and not so good) that you reflect on that have brought you to where you are in life today.
I always look forward to another date arriving that has set the marriage bar very very high. May 18th, 1956. The day and year my parents got married. 66 years for my Mom and Dad and counting.
I have a long way to go in comparison! 40 years to be exact.
Renewing the marriage vows today would include 40 more years of washing dishes (I do). 40 more years of trying to follow her lists (I do….kind of). 40 more years of doing it the wrong way (yup ‘I do’) and being told so. 40 more years of saying…. ‘you’re right, I’m wrong’. 40 more years of loving her. Well…….ok.
I’m in!!

It’s not easy to reach some of the goals or milestones in life but when you do…..celebrate them! Be happy with the little and big advances. Be proud of every one of them. Be proud of YOU!

When not on-air Richard likes to cosplay as 'Spider-Dad McCarthy'. Listen weekday mornings from 6 to 10 on CKDR and on 'the web' at YourSunsetCountry.ca.
