Celebration For Eric Radford Continues

The figure skating community in northwestern Ontario is still buzzing following the Olympic performance of Balmertown’s Eric Radford and partner Meaghan Duhamel.

Radford is expected to return to his home community in March or April to show-off his Gold and Bronze medals.

But the party continues in Red Lake.

It was a packed house Wednesday night at the Legion to watch the memorable final skate from Radford and Duhamel.

Radford is now set to retire from the sport and his first coach Debra Geary says the Games performance was a feather in the cap of a storied career.

Geary says for Eric, it’s a dream come true, also making the entire community feel so proud of all of his great accomplishments.

Geary says at the age of 8, Radford kept saying he would make it to the Olympics.

She stresses now the Red Lake area is over the moon on the much anticipated return of the decorated athlete.

Geary says Val Radford called all the way from South Korea to thank the Red Lake area for their support, stressing Eric loves his hometown.

Here is video from the Red Lake celebration.

Debra Geary spoke with the CKDR Newsroom about Eric Radford, her interview will be on the CKDR Morning Show Friday morning, but you can now hear it by visiting the Audio link below.
