CEP Discusses Future of Dryden Mill

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union is promising legal action if some headway isn’t made shortly with Weyerhaeuser officials.
Talks between the two sides are planned for this week to address the announcement of nearly 400 layoffs at the Dryden Mill.
CEP National Rep for Northwestern Ontario John McInnes says the company violated the collective agreement.
McInnes says if Weyerhaeuser doesn’t make some changes, the union will take legal action immediately.
Talks will surround pension packages, economic recovery plans and the closue of the Sawmill, which CEP claims is unnecessary.
McInnes says the planned October job losses will cost the Dryden economy $10,000/hour/day.
