The biggest private sector union in Canada.
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada has merged with the Canadian Autoworkers Union.
Local representative Steven Boon says for Northwestern Ontario, it will improve their strength to over 5000 members.
He adds it’ll improve in servicing and training and give them a political voice regarding issues being faced in Northwestern Ontario.
A whole new constitution must be drafted, and Boon says it should be completed between 6-12 months.
The two memberships will then reconvene and review the constitution, and make any changes, which will then officially kick off the new union.
CAW was 100% endorsed by members in August, and CEP voted 90% in favour.
