Challenges Facing Con College Heading Into 2022-2023

Confederation College is looking at some challenges as well as opportunities as it finishes up its five year strategic plan.

Richard Gemmell is vice-president Academic of the college and says trying to get students to enrol in their programs is becoming a bigger challenge.

“When economics are doing well, when the communities are doing well, students don’t typically think of a college education, so we’re battling with that,” Gemmell explains.

We’re battling with how the world going to work post-pandemic. There are a lot of students looking for a more flexible way of learning.”

College President Kathleen Lynch confirms the challenge for them is structuring the courses for anyone who needs to take them.

“How do you draw students in. So we can hear today some of the challenges of that. ‘I don’t want to leave my home community’ or ‘I’m working, but I need my credentials, how are you going to help me do that’. So I think those are all the challenges that are there and we try to meet.”
