The provincial government is backing away from a change to the way part-time employees are paid for not working statutory holidays.
Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce spokesperson Charla Robinson explains it’s being changed back to the old system which she calls great news for businesses.
Under the law, employers had to give part-time employees a full day’s pay for not working the holiday, regardless of how much time they had worked in the week’s previous.
She’s happy to see the government has heard the concerns of businesses and will be reviewing the law.
Robinson says many local employers would complain the law would add thousands and thousands of dollars in payroll costs.
