Michael Gravelle says the government is looking to introduce its planned overhaul of Ontario’s forest tenure and pricing system this Spring.
The Minister of forestry says legislation would establish two new governance models for managing and harvesting wood in Ontario’s forests.
The Legislation would establish local forest management
corporations, which would be government agencies that would manage Crown forests and oversee timber sales.
The Ontario Forest Industry Association is applauding the Provincial Government for making the changes.
President Jamie Lim she’s pleased with the move towards an enhanced shareholder sustainable forest licence.
Lim says Michael Gravelle took a brave and successful step forward with the governance model.
