Changes To Mining Act

The McGuinty government says the province is modernizing the way mining companies stake and explore claims to be more respectful of Aboriginal communities and private landowners.
Changes to the Mining Act include new requirements for notifying private landowners and consulting with First Nations potentially affected by proposed exploration activity.
And the government says new early exploration requirements are designed to help minimize the impact on the environment.
The rules were developed in partnership with industry and Aboriginal representatives and take effect on November 1st.
