Charges In Counterfeit Money Investigation

Provincial Police have arrested two men in Fort Frances in relation to an on-going counterfeit money investigation.

OPP say a number of fake $50 have been in circulation since January.

Police say 30 year-old Robert Nicholl faces charges of Fraud under $5,000 and Uttering counterfeit money.

OPP say 47 year-old Jason Alexa is looking at a charge of possession of counterfeit money.

Police continue to investigate.

OPP say the following indicators have been observed on the counterfeit money that has been circulated to date:

-The bills are thick paper not polymer
-The translucent plastic on these bills is actually just tape
-There are hash marks on the top right corner of the face side of the bill, or the corner may be just cut off
-In all examples the maple leaf on the left side is not translucent, and is not a hologram
