The Dryden Fire Service is asking you to check your smoke alarm this weekend.
Emergency and Education Officer Reagan Breeze says having a working smoke alarm will greatly increase your chance of surviving a fire.
Not having a working smoke alarm will increase the chance of death by fire by 60-percent.
He says most fatal fires occur at night time when people are sleeping, and that it’s important to have an alarm on every floor of the home and outside bedrooms.
Breeze notes smoke alarms are only good for 10-years, and that if the alarm doesn’t have an expiry date then chances are it’s expired.
