Cheque Scam

A counterfeit cheque from an insurance company has been sent to a Geraldton resident, along with a survey from Canada Post.
The person was asked to call a number in order to participate in the so-called Canada Post survey.
Once the number is called, a person is asked to cash the cheque and send a portion of the funds through Western Union to someone else.
The person who cashes the cheque get’s the remainder of the money.
OPP would like to remind everyone that if you get one of these or similar cheques it could very well be a fraudulent cheque and you maybe responsible to pay the money back if you cash it.
If anyone receive a cheque like this and are unsure, please contact the OPP.
