Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer says it’s possible and probable one or two new ridings will be in place in northern Ontario in time for the next provincial election.
Greg Essensa says they have just over a year to get all the work done.
Essensa says the earlier they get all of the information collected during public consultations into the hands of the Attorney General, the better.
He says they would need swift government action, noting legislation would have to be implemented before the end of October.
Essensa says for the local political parties, they’ll have to dissolve their existing riding associations and set up new ones before the next election in June of 2018.
