Child Care Crackdown Proposed

The provincial government is proposing greater oversight of unlicensed child care facilities.
Proposed legislation would give authorities greater ability to shut down a child care provider when a child’s safety is considered to be at risk.
It also increases the maximum penalty for illegal offences from $2,000 to $250,000 and allows the province to issue administrative penalties of up to $100,000 per infraction.
