The City of Dryden has released a statement regarding the on-going dispute at the Dryden Fire Service.
They say that they want to ensure the fire service is there for the residents of Dryden and that they support Fire Chief Ryan Murrell.
The City also claims that they have been meeting and working with volunteer fire fighters and making progress in talks.
In the release the City says the Fire Fighters Association laid out conditions on Friday night of last week that had to be met prior to them returning to work. The conditions however could not be met since they are in direct conflict with City by-laws, policies and use of City Facilities.
In response to suggestions that the City is terminating volunteers, they claim they are simply seeking assurances from their volunteer firefighters that they will respond to calls, attend training and maintain professional standards expected of any city employee.
They also say letters to the volunteer members gives them the opportunity to contact the Chief Administrative Officer if clarity is requested, providing for open communication.
Finally they say the City of Dryden Administration is tasked with and must enforce all City policies on behalf of Council and Taxpayers.
The release also says the City is thankful for the volunteers who have been serving in the meantime, as well as the four contract firefighters they added this week.
